Concussions are a major public health concern. Recent studies suggest that concussion has reached epidemic status.

While much of the focus on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) aka concussions has centered on athletes and military veterans, victims of domestic violence constitute an important under recognized and under represented cohort. Elevated risk for concussion is evident in victims of domestic violence as violent acts place an individual at high risk for brain injury.

Statistics indicate that one in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Early recognition of a TBI will lead the victim to appropriate care through a unique integrated project utilizing a large network of collaborators and providers to provide follow up care and treatment to minimize the longer-term effects of TBI.
